Dr. Brunk taught generations of students and a wide variety of history courses during his 36 years at EMU. His specialties were the history of England and the Middle East. Among his many scholarly efforts, he edited a book on the namesake of the Mennonite Church—Menno Simons: A Reappraisal. For most of his time at EMU, Brunk chaired the history department and led the history seminar for senior history majors.
In retirement, Brunk continues his public presentations in which he impersonates Menno Simons as well as his great-grandfather, Henry, who was a conscientious objector fugitive during the Civil War. He was also involved in the opening of an exhibit at Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center about his father, George Brunk II, who led tent crusades throughout North America.
