Derek Kline earned his Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Central Missouri State University and began his career as a flight instructor at KCH in Olathe, Kansas, and at his alma mater in Warrensburg, Missouri. With over 2000 hours of instruction given, Derek established himself as a dedicated educator in the field. He went on to serve as Chief Pilot and Company Instructor for SafeWing Aviation in downtown Kansas City, where he flew Piper Lances and Aztecs. Derek spent 12 years at Piedmont Airlines, rising through the ranks from First Officer to Captain, flying the De Haviland Dash 8, and serving as a ground Instructor before joining American Airlines. At American, he has operated a wide range of aircraft, including the Embraer 190, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Airbus A-320, and A-321. Serving as both First Officer and Captain. He currently flies the Boeing 787 on international routes, continuing to bring his experience and professionalism to the skies.
As Director of Aviation at Eastern Menonite University, my mission is to lead an aviation program that cultivates technical excellence and ethical leadership in aspiring pilots. I aim to prepare students to become skilled, responsible aviators who serve their communites with integrity and purpose.
