Ray Horst

He came to EMU after heading the Spanish program at Houghton College. Under Horst’s leadership, the enrollment in EMU’s Spanish courses climbed steadily. He was noted for his genuine interest in students, his attention to detail in course preparation, his open office hours, and his integration of faith and learning. He and his wife, Vi, led several cross-cultural programs in Central America and introduced EMU to Cuba.

In retirement, Horst enjoys music and is active at Community Mennonite Church. He also volunteers as an English teacher to immigrants and leads tours at Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center.
