Kris received her Master's degree in Education from EMU in 2021 and is certified to teach English as a Second Language. She also has training in deaf education and sign language interpreting. Kris taught elementary school for 22 years and interpreted for deaf students in schools. She loves learning languages. She has studied Hindi, French, Haitian Creole, German, and American Sign Language. Kris attended Woodstock School (an international boarding school) in India as a child, and has had many other cross-cultural experiences including attending a Study Service Term (with Goshen College) in Haiti, working on the planning team for Mennonite World Conference PA 2015 children's program, serving on a refugee support team, and volunteering with Church World Services. Kris has also been an adjunct instructor in the Intensive English Program (IEP) for over five years. She is inspired by the determination and eagerness to learn that she sees in her students in the IEP here at EMU!
