Biography
I am in my 38th year as a college instructor, teaching at many of the local area colleges. I instruct a wide range of business courses and workforce development training workshops that include supervisory skills, economics, quantitative decision-making methods, organizational behavior, human resource management, business & society, introduction to business, operations management, small business management, international management, and management principles. I am the 2013 Elizabethtown College School of Continuing and Professional Studies “Excellence in Teaching” award recipient.
Along with instructing experience I am retired as the Manager of Human Resources Development & Communications at the Alcoa Lancaster Facility. In this role I was responsible for managing the training & development of the workforce, selection processes, compensation, internal & external communications, and public & community affairs. In my 40 plus years at this manufacturing facility I had also worked in a variety of roles including operations, technical services and customer service.
I am the past executive director of the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board. In that role I lead the organization through a transition to a leaner staff, new processes that aligned with new regulations and a shift to a more collaborative culture.
In the community I am active in workforce development and business-education partnerships. To that end I have served as a volunteer to the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board (having served as board chair and vice-chair and on the executive and finance committees, Pennsylvania Workforce Development Association, Lancaster Chamber of Business & Industry, and S.T.E.A.M. - ROLLER (a STEM related program). Presently I serve as a mentor to ex-military members in the American Corporate Partners (ACP), connecting US Veterans to business leaders. http://www.acp-usa.org/. I share my leadership experiences with Elizabethtown College students in the College's Called-to-Lead and mentoring programs. Further, I am a grants reviewer for the Lancaster County Community Foundation; a past board member of the Central Division of the PA Pennsylvania Economy League (PEL) http://pelcentral.org/; and I am a member of the Elizabethtown College Leadership Council; and, mentor two student organizations at Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business Administration. Previously I was quite active with United Way of Lancaster County serving on several different committees and as a fund raiser; and, also, I served on the Keystone Innovation Board.
